The Canadian Youth Chess Championship is the national tournament for the top junior chess players in Canada. Winners in each section will represent Canada at the World Youth Chess Championship. The tournament is divided into 12 sections, based on age and gender. (details here)

The parents' waiting room will be the Riverfront Club, a large room overlooking the river and Detroit skyline. Check out the
Riverfront Club. A little slow to load, a panoramic view, but worth the wait.

- The CYCC is organised in 2-year categories, under-18, under-16, etc. The winner of each category goes to Greece as part of the Canadian team at the World Youth Chess Championships.
- There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trophies in each category, under-18, under-16, etc.
- New this year: trophies for the under 17s, under-15s, under-13s, etc.
These new awards are funded by a grant from Windsor-area Optimist clubs.

Mark Bluvshtein will be the celebrity guest at CYCC, giving exhibitions and analysing games. Mark became a grandmaster at age 16, and among his successes has been a dazzling sacrificial game to defeat super-GM Alexei Shirov.

The organizers include John Coleman, Karen Demers, Dan Passador, Frank Lee, Jill Kanwischer, Linda Deforest, Robert Bierer, Alan Baljeu, Vladimir Drkulec, and Carol Myers. This is the same group, or gang, who organise the Windsor Chess Challenge every year.
